Okowa grieves as Fortune Ebie dies at 79

Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has expressed sadness over the death of topnotch estate dinosaur, Sir Samuel Parma Ogoefuna Fortune Ebie
who died on Sunday in Lagos at the age of 79.
In a condolence statement in Asaba on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Aniagwu, Governor Okowa noted that the lat Founder and President of Estate firm of Fortune Ebie & Co.
has shaped and impacted positively into the Nigerian Estate for several years.
"On behalf of my family, the government and people of Delta State, commiserate with the Ebie Family of Agbor - Alidinma, the Ika nation over the death of one time head of Onu Ika, Sir S.P.O. Fortune Ebie.

"Sir Ebie contributed immensely towards the development of Nigeria's housing sector while at Federal Housing Authority, Shelter Afrique and Zenith Bank Plc where he served as Director and contributed immensely to the
banks magnificent and meteoric rise to prominence.
The Governor further noted that Sir Fortun Ebie's contributions to the development of the Ika nation was quite remarkable adding that the late Ebie was a great Ika patriot and a doyen of the Estate Surveyors and Values profession.

"The passing away of Sir Fortune Ebie at this moment is no doubt a great loss to the family, the Ika nation, Deltans and the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) as his advice and wise counsel was most needed by all.
He was a man of integrity who led the Onu Ika with humility and passion to thee admiration of all and faced life challenges with courage and determination.

"We have lost a great Ika patriot and doyen of Estate Surveyors and Valuers. His death has left us with a huge vacuum that will be difficult to fill", He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched in several ways," he said.
Governor Okowa prayed God Almighty to grant the family and all who mourn his demise the fortitude to bear the loss.

New Lagos Rent-to-Own Housing Scheme for Low-Income Earners

After more than one year of uncertainty that beclouded the operations of the Lagos Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme (LagosHOMS), which had created a home ownership window in the state, authorities of the state government have, at last, come up with a Rent-to-Own housing scheme, raising fresh hope for homeownership for low-income residents.
Lagos had, early in 2014, under former Governor Babatunde Fashola, launched the LagosHOMS, the state government’s intervention aimed to enable more residents to own their own (first) homes through a mortgage scheme that offered mortgage package at a single-digit interest rate and for 10 years repayment tenor.


The low point of the scheme, despite its considerable merits, was the 30 percent equity contribution successful applicants were required to make before they were given the mortgage facility. “It is not easy for a winner of a three-bedroom flat, under the state government’s present housing scheme, to make an initial payment of about N5 million, for instance, before spreading the balance through monthly payments”, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode noted while considering the new housing scheme.

Residents of estates in Lekki from the Elegushi axis down to Ibeju Lekki are frequently subjected to harrowing traffic, especially during peak travel times in the mornings and evenings. The Lagos State Government has responded with the construction of an overhead bridge in Ajah and this is expected to deal with most of the traffic.

There are however, serious bottlenecks at the various roundabouts along the Lekki Expressway. The Government has responded again with a plan to demolish many of the roundabouts and replace them with expanded lanes ands dedicated turning lanes.

In December 2016, this was effected at the 4th Roundabout (Elegushi) and 5th Roundabout (Jakande).
